Performance Evaluation of Distance Vector (RIP) and Link-State (OSPF) Routing Protocols

The routing protocols used by the routers are for routing information across the devices in the network. The information exchange across the network is vital and the routing protocols used by the routers will make sure that the information will reach its destination. This paper focuses on routing protocols, especially, the comparative study of Distance Vector (RIP) and Link State (OSPF) Routing Protocols. Also, this paper is to select the best routing protocol based on the network performance metrics throughput and delay. In addition to that, network scenario is created and simulated, through which the comparative study is performed and the results are discussed in the form of the queue. This study discusses about the pros and cons of different protocols on networks and their efficiencies with the help of different metrics. TCP and network metrics, which in turn helps to select the best routing protocol in terms of throughput and delay.
