An Approach to Model Human Kinetic Energy Harvesting with Wearable Lifejackets to Assist Search and Rescue

This research aims to investigate the feasibility of energy harvesting from wearable lifejackets to assist in search and rescue operations. With limited data on the movement of drowning individuals, this study proposes to develop a model using computer vision analysis of underwater footage and motion capture lab experiments. The results from both methods will be compared and imported into MATLAB for simulation to predict the movement and potential power generation of the lifejacket. The proposed model will enable the identification of optimal design parameters for energy harvesting from the wearable lifejacket. The study will contribute to the development of sustainable and energy-efficient solutions for search and rescue operations, especially in remote and challenging environments. The findings will provide insights into the potential of wearable energy harvesting technologies for enhancing the safety of individuals in aquatic environments.
