Performance Analysis of Various Multicarrier Modulation Formats for 5G Wireless Networks

The existing generation of mobile networks is facing challenges to satisfy the growing demands for high-quality of services offered to users. Many researchers are investigating and developing multi-carrier modulations to meet certain key requirements for 5G wireless networks. Thus, the candidates multi-carrier modulation for 5G wireless networks techniques to overcome the identified limitations of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system are Filtered-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (F-OFDM), Filter Bank Multicarrier (FBMC), and Universal Filtered Multi-carrier (UFMC). The objective of this paper is the performance evaluation of four candidate modulation formats for 5G wireless communication systems. Firstly, four communication systems OFDM, F-OFDM, FBMC, and UFMC are implemented under MATLAB software. Thereafter, the performance in terms of the Power Spectral Density (PSD), the Peak-to-average Power Ratio (PAPR), and the BER for the presented systems will be evaluated under different key parameters (Type of Modulation, Number of IFFT, Filters, etc.)
