Electric Vehicle driven by PMSM

High power density and torque inertia rotation are two advantages keys of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) which are widely used in electrical vehicles (EVs). Nowadays, research focuses on the development and the improvement of this type of vehicles due to its environmental and economic benefits such as reduction of CO2 emissions. This paper discusses some of the fundamental contributions of control strategies for PMSM applied to electric vehicles considering the conventional control method such as Field Orientation Control (FOC) and Direct Torque Control (DTC) with relevant merits and shortcomings. In this paper, the mathematical model of an IPMSM and the dynamic model of EV is presented, along with a brief description of the main types of EVs.
