High-performance Super twisting sliding mode MPPT control for photovoltaic system under partial shading conditions

The purpose of this work is to offer an improved maximum power point tracking (MPPT) approach for photovoltaic (PV) systems using the super-twisting algorithm. The proposed approach has the ability to track the MPP under adverse environmental circumstances such as large fluctuations of insolation and partial shade. In addition, this method minimizes the chattering effect and increases efficiency. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested under changing solar radiation and compared to conventional sliding mode control and to perturb and observe(P&O) technique. MATLAB/Simulink is used to simulate the PV-MPPT system. The results indicate that the developed method has a better dynamic response than conventional sliding mode control. It can be used in photovoltaic generation systems.
