A Study of Optical Delay Simulation System Based on FMCW Radar

Optical signal delay in communication technology has a very important role, which can achieve the control of the phase in the optical phased array antenna. This design is grounded in a linear frequency modulated continuous wave (LFM-CW) radar system and integrates fiber optical and opto-electronic conversion devices. The optical delay time can be achieved by appropriately adjusting the lengths of the optical fibers to meet the desired requirements. In this study, the working principle of FMCW radar is initially investigated through theoretical analysis, followed by an extensive examination of its application in optical signal delay. To further enhance our understanding, the professional optical simulation software OPTISYSTEM is employed to simulate the FMCW radar system. Additionally, the optical delay module is thoroughly explored in terms of its optical design ideas, and a comprehensive analysis of the device's advantages and disadvantages is conducted. A real-time time delay system is constructed for experimental delay measurements and data analysis. The implemented device enhances the delay time of the optical delay while simultaneously simplifying the configuration process for different delay durations.
