A Learning-Centered Two-stage Inverter Prototyping

The article describes the development stages, along with the implementation challenges and the lessons learned from a two-stage DC-AC converter developed by undergraduate students responsible for converting 50 V DC at the input to 50 V AC at the output. To perform this conversion, the students developed a boost converter used in the first stage, and a full bridge inverter in the second stage. During the course of the project, the students gained practical knowledge in the stages of power electronics design, acquiring insights that go far beyond what theoretical classes and simulations can provide. The training provided by this project prepares the students with the basic knowledge for graduate programs and industry positions and can be replicated in the introductory power electronics courses around the world.
