Analysis of Parameter Variation Effects on Proportional-Integral and Robust Predictive Controllers for Doubly-Fed Induction Generator

The present work analyzes the impact of parameter mismatch on the performance of two control methods for a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG): the Robust Predictive Control method and the Proportional-Integral Control method. Both methods are based on Field-Oriented Control (FOC). In DFIG-based wind turbines, the stator windings are typically directly connected to the grid, while a power converter feeds the rotor windings. This type of generator allows for independent control of active power (P) and reactive power (Q). The method used to decouple the power components of the DFIG is Field-Oriented Control (FOC). Results of simulations performed in Simulink™ attest to the superiority of robust control in dealing with variations in plant resistance values.
