A High-Frequency Magnetic Link-Based Converter Station for AC and DC Distribution Grid

With the advancement of power electronics, multiport converter (MPC) has become a promising solution for developing an AC and DC power grid. To meet the goal of AC and DC distribution grids by establishing galvanic isolation between the grids, a new topology of MPC for medium voltage distribution networks is proposed in this article. The converter has three ports, two of which have full-bridge converters and one of which has a half-bridge converter. To step up and isolate the voltage, the proposed converter uses high-frequency magnetic link-based multiple active bridges (MAB) as a base stage. The turn ratio of numerous windings that are shared by a single magnetic link is matched by the step-up voltage ratio at which the MAB is operated, which is typically 1.05. The existence of this situation enables inherent soft-switching capabilities with minimum current impact on the switches. By using the inverter and converter stages with the MAB stage, the proposed converter produces both medium-voltage AC and medium-voltage DC while accepting low-voltage DC as an input. As a result of this functionality, it is feasible to act as an “energy router” in power grids. To verify the efficacy of the proposed converter, a thorough simulation was run on the MATLAB/Simulink platform. Simulation outcomes reveal that the anticipated converter can efficiently supply the desired voltage and power of the distribution grids.
