Exploration of Medium Voltage Power Converters Design and Implementation for Motor Drive

After several decades of technological evolution, multilevel and multi-pulse converters have become extremely important for medium voltage drive systems. However, reducing circuit complexity in a multilevel converter is still challenging. Hence, a multilevel converter is exhibited in this paper. Exhibited power inverter is a resultant structure of a series connection of level generation cells with H-bridge. Exhibited multilevel converter can generate five-step voltage per phase and nine–level step voltage at motor terminal. In existing converter, number of power switches is decreased from twenty-four to twenty-one in proposed converter to obtain efficient operations. In medium voltage drive system, a multi pulse converter is a practical converter that can provide a DC power supply for drive end power converter and overcome harmonics impact at grid terminal of medium voltage drive. As a result, a 36-pulse AC-DC converter is used, which has few possible complicated windings. This paper uses an indirect field-oriented control method to stabilize motor operation during steady and dynamic conditions.
