A Modified Adaptive Decentralized Control for Managing the Available Capacity of Distributed Community Energy Storage

A modified adaptive decentralized control algorithm is proposed for distributed community energy storage (CES) in a photovoltaic (PV) integrated low-voltage (LV) distribution network. The proposed technique can reduce the peak grid exports/imports and flattens the peak voltage profile by effectively managing the CES available capacity. This paper aims to define the charging/discharging power command to the CES that complies with the uncertain characteristics of PV. The proposed control framework is divided into two stages. Coordinating these two stages ensures a proper reduction in peak grid exports/imports, and enhances network voltage while maintaining adaptability to PV characteristics and maximizing the utilization of available capacity. A standard 13-bus LV distribution network is used to demonstrate and validate the concept. The proposed control algorithm is implemented using both MATLAB and RTDS.
