Evaluation of Operating Modes for a Quadratic Boost Derived Reconfigurable Three Port Converter

The architecture of quadratic boost dc-dc converters consists of two pairs of reactive elements and four semiconductor devices (active and passive) within the same topology. This work explores the possibility of refurnishing this converter topology with controlled switches to enable multi-source integration and achieve reconfigurability. The topology modification results in an integrated power converter, capable of interfacing two energy sources with one source bidirectional and potential applications in distributed power systems, and consumer electronics. The re-configurable nature of the power converter widens the scope of its operation, and in this work, multi-port integrability, and bidirectional power flow capability at the ports are evaluated. For the operation and control of the converter, pulse width modulation strategies for different operating modes have been proposed. The operating modes of the derived topologies, their control methods, and the demonstration of characteristic behavior have been presented in the work. Experimental results validate the operation of the converter in different modes of operation.
