Dynamic Beam Hopping for LEO Satellites with Differentiated Traffic Demands

In low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication system, it is challenging to achieve on-demand service due to the differentiated traffic demands across both temporal and spatial dimensions. The beam hopping (BH) technology, which enables flexible scheduling of system resources based on the quantity of traffic demands, is regarded as a potential solution to this problem. However, in most cases, obtaining the actual amount of traffic demands is difficult, and instead, the traffic distribution statistics are available, which puts forward higher requirements for designing BH pattern. To address this issue, a state classification-based multi-satellite joint iterative BH (SCMJI-BH) pattern design algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm takes into account both temporal delay and the interference from both intra-satellite and inter-satellite beams. Then, a timedivision optimization framework is designed by estimating traffic volume and utilizing the distinction in traffic states among cells. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can effectively guarantee service fairness and exhibit robustness for different traffic loads.
