Joint Resource Block and Power Allocation for eMBB and URLLC Coexistence in 5G H-CRAN

The heterogeneous cloud radio access network (H-CRAN) is envisioned as a prospective architecture for enhancing energy efficiency (EE) in the future. However, the cross-layer interference caused by high power node (HPN) makes resource allocation toward high EE challenging. This paper formulates, considering the coexistence of ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) traffic and enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) traffic, an energy-efficient resource allocation problem in H-CRAN. Additionally, a hybrid dynamic resource block scheduling scheme is proposed to improve system throughput. For URLLC users, the transmission rate in the finite blocklength regime and the effective bandwidth are utilized to characterize the quality of service (QoS) with a detailed analysis of the end-to-end delay and error components. The optimization problem belongs to mixed integer non-linear programming, and it is hard to get addressed due to its non-convexity. Consequently, an iterative algorithm is presented to obtain a sub-optimal solution. Simulation results validate the superiority of the proposed algorithm in improving the EE of the system compared with other strategies.
