Simultaneous Output Voltage Regulation and Efficiency Enhancement of BWPT Systems under Lateral Misalignment through Vehicle Side Control

Efficiency in bidirectional wireless power transfer (BWPT) systems is highly sensitive to misalignment and load variation. This paper addresses these challenges and proposes a novel vehicle-side control (VSC) method for improving the performance of BWPT systems. The objective is to enhance system efficiency and maintain output voltage stability. The proposed approach focuses on controlling the phase-shift angle (β) of the vehicle assembly converter (VAC) to regulate the output voltage. Further, the system efficiency is optimized by achieving a zero power factor angle (ZPA) during misalignment. However, ZPA is achieved by controlling the power transfer angle (θ

) is zero. The introduced approach eliminates the need for communication between the primary and secondary sides, simplifying the system’s complexity. A 1 kW series-series (S-S) compensated BWPT laboratory prototype is implemented to validate the proposed control technique. The paper presents simulated and experimental results, demonstrating the approach’s effectiveness under different lateral misalignment and loading conditions.
