An Extended Partial Harmonic Current Compensation for Multifunctional PV Inverters

The harnessing of ancillary services from photovoltaic (PV) inverters is growing with unused capacity. However, the limitations imposed by the ratings of PV inverters need to hinder the provision of services during periods of peak PV generation to protect from over-current. This paper proposes an extended anti-windup proportional-integrator (PI) harmonic current compensation (HCC) method specifically designed for three-phase systems. At the same, the existing simple method has been successfully applied to single-phase systems. It does not yield efficient results in three-phase systems when there is a highly unbalanced load current. Therefore, this paper extends the existing method with the required modifications to cater to three-phase systems. The simulation study was conducted on a 6 kW PV system, and the results validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.
