Geospatial Processing Technology and Future Information Technology Disaster Recovery - Systematic Literature Review

Geospatial information processing no longer uses manual techniques but has utilized advances in information technology in all its processes. Therefore, the role of information technology becomes essential, so the availability of information technology systems must always be maintained so as not to disrupt the business process of geospatial information processing. One of the efforts to maintain the availability of information technology systems is the existence of disaster recovery plans that geospatial information providers should own. However, not all geospatial information providers have disaster recovery scenarios. This incapability leads to a disruption risk of the business process in the event of a disaster. This literature review provides an overview of trends for using information technology in geospatial information processing and information technology disaster recovery strategies to maintain the availability of information technology systems. This review is a systematic review of the literature of 34 research articles published between 2018 and 2023. The selected research articles are English-based articles discussing geospatial information processing technology or disaster recovery plans from Scopus-indexed scientific journals and proceedings. The results showed that geospatial information processing mainly utilizes technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data, and High-Performance Computing (HPC). Meanwhile, trends in disaster recovery strategies show a shift to cloud computing to get maximum results at an efficient cost. This research provides recommendations for future research, namely the development of disaster recovery strategies that focus on the business processes of geospatial information providers.
