A novel antifouling layer for cardiac troponin I detection in a blood sample

The impurity in the blood sample solution is the leading cause of noise in biosensors. This work investigates the effect of a novel antifouling layer consisting of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), cross-linked bovine serum albumin (BSA), and mercaptoethanol. The AuNPs are deposited through the electrodeposition technique in order to create a low-cost conductive layer with an enormous surface area. Then, a BSA and Glutaraldehyde (GA) are mixed and incubated on the AuNPs layer. The resulting surface becomes a porous layer which plays an important role in protecting the detection layer from contaminants in the sample solution. This work enables the feasible and cost-effective LOC for cTnI detection. The limit of detection of 0.097 pg/mL is obtained with a rapid detection time of 10 minutes.
