Investigation on the Effect of PAC2002 Tire Force Modelling on High-Power AWD Electric Vehicle Longitudinal Performance

This paper presents a comprehensive model for designing and analyzing high-power all-wheel-drive electric vehicles (HPAWD EVs), considering tire behaviour using the PAC2002 model with load-and-pressure dependent coefficients and vertical load transfers. Existing vehicle dynamics models use simple tire models that assume them to be rigid bodies leading to inflated results. The proposed model enables accurate simulation and analysis of longitudinal vehicle performance, providing insights into the relationship between vehicle and tire forces. The results show over 3% difference in 0–60 mph sprint time when comparing the PAC2002 model to the commonly used model. Accurate tire modelling is crucial in the design of HPAWD EVs.
