Energy Analysis of the Structures of the Controlled Drive of the Fuel Pump of a Vehicle Diesel Engine for Driving in Urban Conditions

The paper presents an energy analysis of the proposed controlled drives of the high-pressure fuel pump for diesel engines of vehicles designed for the operating conditions of cars and other vehicles at modern urban traffic intensity. It has been determined that diesel engines operate under such driving conditions mainly at low and medium crankshaft speeds and have higher fuel consumption than at nominal speeds. Diesel-electric generators are increasingly favored in transportation due to their distinct advantages over gasoline or gas alternatives. Diesel generators offer superior economy, reliability, and safety, demonstrating resilience under heavy loads and enabling prolonged operation over several days. They also exhibit relatively low fuel consumption and possess an extended operational lifespan. The article introduces and analyzes various design schemes for controlled drives of high-pressure fuel pumps in vehicle diesel engines, proposing an optimal solution. It is also proposed to use such drives of a diesel engine fuel pump together with a pressure pulse modulator. A theoretical study of the processes of fuel spraying, evaporation and burnout during the operation of fuel equipment equipped with a pressure pulse modulator and a controlled high-pressure fuel pump drive at different speeds of automotive diesel engines is carried out. The theory of calculating the area of efficient operation of such fuel systems is developed.
