High Bandwidth GPU-Based Data Acquisition for SPECT

New generations of SPECT devices will push the limits of current technology to accommodate improvements in detector resolution, increase energy ranges for theranostic radiotracers, and delivering faster results. To accommodate these improvements, data will need to be acquired and processed at rates that were until recently, impossible to achieve. Here we present a prototype system to acquire data over ethernet at rates of up to 200 Gbps and to process in a GPU in real time. We are prototyping using two Nvidia AGX development kits with an RTX 6000 GPU and Mellanox Connect-X6 high bandwidth ethernet NICs. Data is aggregated from multiple 10 Gbps sources using a Mellanox switch to pass data at 100 Gbps to each AGX. In the acquisition machine, data is moved directly from the NIC to the GPU without transferring through the device memory, which increases speed and reduces latency. A comparison will be shown between Nvidia Rivermax and the more conventional GPU-direct RDMA methods of sending data to the GPU. The system is prototyped using an array of development boards that send data packets at a rate of 10 Gbps to emulate a detector output. Multiple data processing methods in the GPU will be presented.
