A Study on the Impact of Deviation in VR Natural Pointing

Virtual reality technology supports more immersive, interactive, and imaginative interactive scenarios, and it has demonstrated unique advantages in various application domains. Selection is the basic task in 3D interaction, and its efficiency influences the usability of interactive systems. Different factors in both the input and output spaces of the interactive environment can affect selection tasks. Accordingly, this study examines the magnitude of deviation between eye-hand ray and index finger ray during natural pointing behavior towards targets. It also investigates whether the deviation of these two raycasting methods is affected by changes in target location factors, and the patterns of this influence. The research findings indicate that target location factors, particularly target distance and target azimuth, have a more significant impact on the deviation, and there is a positive correlation between the deviation of the two raycasting methods. These results provide valuable insights for optimizing pointing techniques in virtual reality interactive environments.
