Design and Development of Lab Experimental Model of 3 Degrees of Freedom Moving Tandem Rotors System for Flight Controls

This research project aims to develop a lab experimental model of 3 degrees of freedom moving tandem helicopter plant as a platform for studying and analyzing flight control systems through wireless communication. The project involves creating a MATLAB GUI application for Bluetooth serial communication, controlling set values and PID gains for system control. The scope includes designing, fabricating, and integrating mechanical and electrical components for the experimental model. Through a Bluetooth interface, the hardware connects to MATLAB software. The experimental model successfully replicates the dynamics of a moving tandem helicopter, with an effective PID controller stabilizing its motion. Results validate the implementation of the flight controller demonstrating the potential of using simple AVR devices for real-time PID operations. This work advances flight control technologies for tandem rotors systems, providing a valuable tool for research and experimentation. Wireless simulation control and remote operation of infield devices using a PID controller for the aviation industry are possible outcomes. Further extensions can be explored, including 6-DOF models and other Bluetooth applications.
