Performance Analysis of SRM with Different Rotor and Stator Pole Angles of 12/8 and 12/16 Configurations

Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are so interested in industrial and automotive applications because of their several advantages such as simple and robust constructions, low cost, high reliability and easy manufacturing. However, there are some drawbacks and limitations for this machine such as some challenges in constant torque, high acoustic noise, high levels of torque ripple and vibrations. The number of stator poles of SRMs is usually designed to be larger than that of the rotor to easily control. In addition, the maximum constant torque, torque ripple, and stator and rotor pole arc for conventional and larger rotor poles have not yet considered in the previous studies. In this paper, the finite element approach for the SRM with different stator and rotor pole angles of 12/8 and 12/16 configurations is proposed to investigate and compute the magnetic flux density, electromagnetic torque, output power and efficiency. The development of method is also considered with the different combination of pole arc degrees.
