Pratirakshak (प्रतिरक्षक): Enhancing Competitive Exam Integrity Through Proctoring Technology

Our paper describes the development and implementation of a proctoring system designed specifically for online competitive exams. The system, named “Pratirakshak,” is designed to detect and prevent various forms of cheating during the exam. The system includes functionalities such as mobile phone detection, person verification, and tracking of the eye and head movements of the test-taker. These functionalities are aimed at preventing common forms of cheating, such as using cell phones or unauthorized materials during the exam. The system also ensures that only one front end is visible during the exam, preventing the test-taker from adding or removing any window from the site. The system also tracks the movement of the test-takers eyes and head, and if continuous movement is detected for more than 2 seconds, a warning message is displayed. Pratirakshak is designed to ensure that all students are held to the same monitoring and evaluation standards, promoting fairness in the online exam environment. While the use of proctoring systems has been the subject of some controversy due to privacy and ethical concerns, our focus in this paper is on the design and implementation of Pratirakshak as a tool to maintain academic integrity during online competitive exams.
