Finite Element Analysis on a Bionic Foot Prosthesis Model during Walking Gait Phases

Bionic foot ergonomic quality depends on its design and usage comfortability. Daily activities, sports, and other high-durability required actions are considered in bionic foot design. Bionic foot design is a challenge that has to be overcome to develop ergonomic below-limb prosthetics. Load simulation using Finite Element Method (FEM) can aid bionic foot design development. This study aims to simulate bionic foot design based on gait cycle activities using FEM. Bionic foot design imported into FEM software with load force placed on ground reaction force refers to axial, medial-lateral, and anterior and posterior load. The FEM simulation shows that the loading using the static method with dynamic load is divided into three steps, with the step selection being at three peaks, the first peak is on the side of the most critical peak, the second peak is in the valley, and the third peak is in a critical position which is indicated by the high Ground Reaction Force (GRF), the most extreme angle is at peak 3 with the condition of the feet lifting as high as 21° with a contact pressure of 0.580 MPa with Von-Mises value 0.472.
