A Novel Fractal CDRA for Enhanced Mobile Broadband Applications

In this paper, a novel Fractal Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna (F-CDRA) is designed and investigated for enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) applications. Semicylindrical portions are etched and added in an iterative manner to broaden the DRA length. The proposed F-CDRA comprises a fractal DRA, a tapered feedline, and a Defective Ground structure (DGS). This feed line with DGS results in the super wideband behavior of the DRA. The proposed DRA provides an impedance bandwidth of 28.1 GHz with a fractional bandwidth of 160% and has a gain of 6.86 dBi. It also offers a radiation efficiency of 98.6% and has omnidirectional radiation characteristics which makes it a perfect fit for eMBB applications including 5G millimeter waves.
