Development of a Wirelessly Powered Aortic Stent with Smart Sensors for Endoleak Treatment and Data Transmission

This study presents a wireless-powered smart sensors-integrated aortic stent designed to address endoleak treatment and enable data transmission capability. The novel stent antenna system offers promising advancements for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). The stent antenna incorporates meshed rings formed by multiple helical wires connected to a single feed wire, allowing for controlled distribution of currents. This design enhances the antenna’s performance, providing features such as omnidirectional radiation, high gain, and optimal impedance matching. Simulation and measurement results validate the effectiveness of the stent antenna across awide frequency range, including the ISM 868 and 915 MHz bands, spanning from 850 to 950 MHz. By integrating wireless-powered smart sensors, the developed aortic stent not only addresses endoleak treatment but also enables data transmission capability, opening new possibilities for continuous monitoring of patients.
