Wideband Omnidirectional Antenna Based on Dielectric Resonant and Slot Modes

A novel exciting method of TM01δ mode of cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is presented. Based on the internal field distribution of TM
01δ
mode, the circular magnetic current can be utilized to feed this mode. The structure of circular magnetic current is realized by slots etched on the ground, which is excited by the two-order power divider. In addition, the direct radiation of slot can be designed at another frequency to obtain wideband omnidirectional radiation. To verify the presented exciting method and wideband design, the cylindrical DRA excited by four fan-shaped slots is simulated. The impedance and gain bandwidth can cover 1.95–2.87 GHz (39%). Moreover, the radiation pattern and efficiency are both stable within the operating band.
