SIW Cavity-Backed Slot Antenna Using High-Order Radiation Modes for Broadband Applications in X Band

This study presents a compact SIW cavity-backed slot antenna design for X-band communication. The single-layer structure includes a rectangular radiating slot on the top layer and utilizes grounded coplanar waveguide feeding. By matching TE13 and TE32 mode impedances, the antenna achieves enhanced operating bandwidth and high gain. With an impedance bandwidth of 0.721 GHz (11.119 GHz to 11.84 GHz), resonance dips occur at 11.229 GHz (TE13) and 11.744 GHz (TE32), providing gains of 10.4 dBi and 8.11 dBi, respectively. The proposed design shows promise for its simplicity, broadband capability, and high gain in X-band applications.
