Dual 4-Switch Inverter fed BLDC Motor Drive with Open-end Stator Windings

This article proposes a dual 4-switch inverter fed 3-phase BLDC motor drive with open end stator windings. Conventionally two 6-switch inverters are required to drive a 3-phase BLDC motor drive with open-end stator windings. The topology discussed in this paper will be useful for developing a scheme for fault tolerant operation of the conventional dual inverter fed 3-phase BLDC motor drive. A current controlled PWM scheme has been developed for the control of the drive. The proposed scheme is validated by simulation using the MATLAB-Simulink software and experimentally verified on a laboratory prototype. The control scheme is implemented using a digital signal controller TMS320F28377S.
