Analysis of Phase Modulated Series Resonant Converter in Discontinuous Conduction Mode

Discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) operation of phase-modulated SRC has modulation and load-independent soft-switching, and switching loss is less as compared to continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation. However, it is difficult to obtain steady-state and dynamic model of the converter due to the presence of discontinuity in the inductor current. Therefore, this paper presents steady-state and discrete-time dynamic analyses of the phase-modulated series resonant converter (SRC) for DCM operation, incorporating typical converter non-idealities. The output characteristics are also derived to obtain the operating point of converter for a given load. Analytical predictions as per the proposed model are validated through experiments carried out on a 150 W SRC based prototype.
