Weighting Factor Less Model Predictive Flux Control of Five-Phase Induction Motor with Maximum Torque per Ampere

This paper’s goal is to outline the advantages of a new MTPA-based finite set model predictive flux control (FS-MPFC) for a five-phase induction motor drive for a dynamic response, reduction of iron loss, torque, and flux ripples, THD of phase current, and efficiency. Before adopting the stationary reference frame for FS-MPFC to manage both Flux and torque in the FPIM, the reference flux modifications required to obtain the MTPA condition are first determined in the synchronous reference frame. This is suitable for electric vehicle (EV) applications, the reference torque in EV applications varies steadily which allows to incorporate condition of MTPA by controlling the reference flux. Since the controlling variable is only reference flux in the cost function of FS-MPFC need not include any weighting factor. The control technique performance is tested with torque reference which is varying smooth and results of the proposed (MTPA-based FS-MPFC) control demonstrate that when compared with conventional FS-MPFC, a much smaller current is drawn from the Two Level Voltage Source inverter of the drive. Since the current is minimum it helps to save energy drawn from the motor drive and enhances the efficiency of motor drive. Both the conventional and proposed control technique results were simulated with the help of MATLAB/Simulink.
