Optical Camera Communication via RGB-LEDs and Deep Learning Integration for Improved Signal Classification and Transmission

We investigated the application of RGB-LEDs and cameras in combination with deep learning techniques to realize an optical camera communication system (OCC). OCC employs visible light for data transmission among devices, typically involving a camera as the receiver and RGB-LEDs as the transmitting light source. An RGB-LED is a color-variable LED capable of emitting a range of colors and is prominent in the visible spectrum. The proposed approach was used to detect the spectral signals emitted by RGB-LEDs using optical cameras. Deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI) technology were used to autonomously learn features and relationships, enabling data classification and prediction. We employed the VisLab (an AI tool) to classify images from optical cameras and recover transmitted information. In this experiment, we established a reliable optical camera communication system employing RGB-LEDs as signal emitters and incorporating deep learning techniques for signal classification. The effective classification of optical camera communication signals using deep learning methods ensured efficient transmission. A substantial dataset was used for training deep learning models. After training, the model was used for image classification and information retrieval on the received images.
