Evaluation Of Flux-barriers For Synchronous Reluctance Motors

This paper introduces two distinct methods for enhancing the electromagnetic torque and output power of synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs). These approaches are developed by taking into account two specific motor models: SynRM 1 with equal geometry flux barriers and SynRM 2 with optimized geometry flux barriers. In the SynRM 1, all the flux-barriers have the same bridge thickness, outer thickness, inner thickness; The number of flux-barriers is considered. In the SynRM 2, the optimal number of flux-barriers is selected from the SynRM 1. By changing the geometry of the flux-barriers, the motor’s design is enhanced to minimize torque ripple, leading to smoother operation and improved performance. Next, a finite element technique is applied to calculate and simulate electromagnetic parameters, such as the flux density, average torque and output power. As a result of the analytical modeling, the SynRM is designed with 4 flux-barriers and different geometries of flux-barrier to improve the torque ripple and torque characteristic of SynRM motor.
