ASSA-CPS: Automated Formal Safety and Security Assessments in Cyber-Physical Systems

This paper describes dissemination and exploitation of the ASSA-CPS industrial research project: Providing both safety and security assessments in emerging technologies, i.e., Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), is of increasing importance since they are inextricably intertwined. Incorrectly configured and improperly deployed systems are exposed to security threats, and this raises issues in terms of safety. Security vulnerabilities and risks often cause safety hazards. Therefore, safety and security assessment must be considered in combination when companies develop systems to be deployed in wider society. The main idea of this project is to provide companies with a formal approach combining safety and security assessments in a systematic and automatic manner to support the development of trustworthy software systems. Thus, stakeholders become rapidly aware of potential safety and security risks involved in the system development at an earlier stage and apply relevant safety and security protection technologies.
