Coprime Synthetic Aperture Radar: State of the Art and Application to Ship Detection

Within the general framework of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems, Coprime SAR (CopSAR) is a technique, recently proposed by the authors and further developed by other researchers, able to reduce the amount of data to be stored and processed and to increase the range swath, with no resolution loss and with no significant increase of processing and hardware complexity with respect to usual SAR imaging systems. This technique can be applied to maritime scenes made up of bright targets over a dark background. Therefore, its obvious application is to ship detection when wide areas need to be monitored. In this work, the state of the art of this innovative approach and of its applications is reviewed.
