Optimal Placement of Capacitor in the Distribution Grids using Dragonfly Algorithm

The integration of capacitors into contemporary electric distribution grids is not merely a technical endeavor but a cornerstone for the evolution of modern power systems. This task carries undeniable importance, primarily due to the significant advantages it has on minimizing real power losses and supporting the grid’s overall resilience and stability. Guided by this imperative, the research at hand meticulously and comprehensively evaluates strategies concerning the optimal positioning and incorporation of capacitors within such complex grids. This research presents a study on the optimal placement of capacitors within electric distribution grids. To achieve this, the innovative capabilities of the Dragonfly Algorithm, a novel and promising optimization approach, is employed. The algorithm is applied to the well-established benchmark IEEE 33-bus network. Simulation and results show a notable decline in both real and reactive power losses. Additionally, there’s a tangible enhancement in the voltage profile, showcasing the method’s proficiency. For those inclined towards the technical underpinnings, it’s noteworthy to mention that the Dragonfly Algorithm-based optimization procedure has been computationally crafted and executed using the MATLAB R2022b environment
