Minimization of Electrical Losses in Distribution Transformers on a University Campus

This study presents a methodology to optimize distribution transformers aiming at minimizing electrical losses within a university campus microgrid, intending to reduce energy losses. The methodology comprises of five stages: data preparation and processing, mathematical modeling, scenario generation, technical analysis, and economic analysis. The technical analysis stage involves evaluating the performance and efficiency of the distribution transformers using collected measurements to identify areas where losses can be reduced. In the economic analysis stage, the optimal scenario is determined by considering the configuration that results in the lowest annual cost of losses. By comparing the costs of the optimal solution with the expenses associated with the transformer's current configuration, potential savings can be achieved. The proposed methodology aims to provide valuable insights for decision-making in the operation of distribution networks and microgrids, aiming to reduce operating costs and enhance overall energy efficiency within the university grid.
