On the use of parametric stator models for electrical machine vibration computation

Parametric stator structural models are used in the electrical machine optimization process and in system-level simulations for noise and vibration prediction. In this paper different models that differ in computational resources and prediction accuracy are explored. First, the analytical method used for stator eigen-frequencies computation is statistically compared with the finite-element method. Afterwards, the vibration displacement computed via the semi-analytical method, that uses an analytical formulation for the forced response, including modulation effects and tangential force factors, and eigen-frequencies coming from finite element analysis, is statistically compared with the results produced by the vibration-synthesis method, representing a pure finite-element method. Here, the air-gap forces excitation used in the forced response problem are computed using a finite-element electromagnetic parametric model. The trade-offs between computation time and model accuracy are discussed.
