Performance Analysis of 2.4KW CLLC Resonant Dual Active Bridge Converter with Different Phase Shift Modulation Techniques for EV Charging Applications

The Dual Active Bridge Converter is prominently used in Electric Vehicle (EV) charging systems due to the numerous advantages it offers. The advantages offered by the DAB Converter are galvanic isolation, bidirectional power flow, high voltage gain, high power density and high efficiency. The DAB converter is controlled by employing Phase Shift Modulation (PSM) techniques. The efficiency of the DAB converter is increased by using resonant tank circuit in series with the isolation transformer in conjunction with various advanced modulation schemes. In this work, design and implementation of CLLC Resonant Dual Active Bridge (DAB) Converter for Electric Vehicle (EV) battery charging application is presented. The DAB converter connected to the common DC bus of Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is controlled by employing various Phase Shift Modulation (PSM) schemes such as Single Phase Shift (SPS), Dual Phase Shift (DPS) and Triple Phase Shift (TPS) modulation. The performance of the CLLC DAB Converter is analyzed for the different cases. The EV battery pack of 240V is connected to the output of DAB converter. The battery pack is charged at a constant current of 10A. The designed system is validated through simulations performed in MATLAB/Simulink followed by hardware implementation using OP4610.
