Using MPPT Based on Modified Algorithms to Improve the Efficiency of a DC-DC Converter to Charge a Photovoltaic System's Battery

Nowadays, renewable and sustainable energy has become an important source of electricity generation, which depends on sunlight as a source of energy generation. It is environmentally friendly energy, abundant and inexhaustible, and it works without noise. But solar energy systems always suffer from low efficiency because of their dependence on the factors of unstable conditions, which are temperature and solar irradiation, so their characteristics are always non-linear. Therefore, researchers have become interested in how to improve the efficiency of the solar system by developing several algorithms that are applied in maximum power point tracking )MPPT (technology. In this paper, two algorithms will be modified, the Incremental Conductance (IC) algorithm, and the fuzzy logic control (FLC) algorithm to control the duty cycle of a DC-DC buck converter during volatile weather conditions and to obtain a constant voltage level to charge the battery with a voltage of (48 V). We simulated the system using MATLAB/Simulink environment and the results of the two algorithms (FLC&IC) were compared to determine the best algorithm for increasing the efficiency of the photovoltaic system.
