Towards Safer Roads: Development and Evaluation of an Alcohol-Impaired Driver Alert System

To enhance road safety, this research study introduces a revolutionary mechanism to instantly alert fellow motorists and authorities about the presence of intoxicated drivers. Existing systems have various shortcomings such as facing challenges in automatically contacting the local authorities and the effectiveness of their driver alert techniques, which could unintentionally cause delays in generating emergency responses. The suggested system incorporates an advanced alcohol detection component, which carefully evaluates the amount of alcohol in the driver's exhaled air. When the detected alcohol level exceeds a certain threshold, an immediate alarm is set off to alert the driver. Furthermore, the solution incorporates an advanced LCD display positioned on the back of the driver's vehicle, serving as a visual interface to communicate cautionary messages to nearby vehicles. Simultaneously, this innovative feature ensures that other vehicles receive the warning message directly in their own car, fostering heightened awareness and encouraging the responsible driving behavior. This feature acts as a vital heads-up, warning other drivers that there is a drunk driver on the road ahead. The proposed system immediately starts communication with the closest police station and quickly relays the precise coordinates of the drunk driver's location. By enabling quick and efficient intervention actions for situations involving drunk driving, this synchronized response mechanism is intended to significantly improve road safety.
