Design of a Compact Antenna Test Range System Based on Dual-polarization Metamaterial Lens

In this paper, a new metamaterial lens antenna for the compact antenna test range (CATR) system is proposed. In this CATR system design, the feed source is a choke coil horn antenna, and the lens unit is formed by etching a slotted metal sheet on a single-layer dielectric substrate. The size of the unit is

, the number of lens units is 101×101. The simulation result shows that at the frequency of 26GHz, when the peak-to-peak field amplitude is less than 1.6dB and the peak-to-peak phase is less than 10°, a 21cm quiet zone (QZ) is formed at a distance of 1.8m from the feed. The aperture utilization efficiency is 40%, which indicates that the CATR system achieves a high-quality, large-area, dual-polarization QZ performance using only one single-layer metamaterial lens.
