Motor Load Braking Energy Recovery Control Strategy of SMES Considering Large DC Bus Voltage Fluctuations

Aiming at existing braking energy recovery methods is difficult to reuse energy, resulting in waste. This paper proposes a brake energy recovery control strategy based on superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) for motor loads. For the motor DC power supply system that is susceptible to internal and external disturbances, the fast charging and discharging ability of SMES is fully utilized. The braking energy recovery system with motor load was modeled in MATLAB/Simulink. Based on the simulation results with and without SMES, the performance was evaluated and compared. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of SMES in recovering motor braking energy as well as maintaining DC bus voltage.
