Development of NbTi Superconducting Joint by Indium-plated Solder Welding Method

The resistance parameters of NbTi superconducting joint can directly affect the thermodynamic and electromagnetic properties of superconducting magnet, thereby affecting the stable operation of superconducting equipment. In this study, an indium-plated solder welding method was developed and NbTi superconducting joints were prepared. The results show that the NbTi superconducting joint prepared by indium plating method could effectively solve the problem of many defects at interface in the joint prepared by previous solder welding process. Moreover, the resistance tests under 1 T background magnetic field by current attenuation indicated that the resistance of a single superconducting joint reaches the order of 10
^-13
Ω, which could fully meet the operating requirements of large and medium-sized magnets with high operating environment requirements.
