Compensation of Static PSOE in Torque Controlled PMSM Drives via Current Reference Remapping

Position sensor signal is a critical signal in a field- oriented controlled permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drive system. Remedial action taken under static position sensor offset (SPSOE) fault using existing methods cause a notable and undesirable torque transient in the system. Such unexpected torque transients in many systems including safety critical systems can be catastrophic. This paper proposes a novel and elegant SPSOE compensation strategy that alleviates the undesirable torque transient caused by existing methods through a reference current remapping strategy. The pragmatic nature of the proposed approach is validated with analysis, simulation and experimental results along with comparisons to other methods.
