Torque Ripple Reduction Method Using Phase-Based Repetitive Control During Fault-Tolerant Operation of PMSMs

This article proposes a Phase-Based Repetitive Controller (PBRC) for mitigating torque ripple during single-phase open-circuit fault-tolerant operation of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs). The proposed method applied in parallel with the conventional PI current controller maintains torque ripple reduction performance under motor speed variations. The torque ripple components, which is an even-numbered multiple of the current fundamental frequency, are derived from the postfault PMSM model, demonstrating the applicability of the PBRC. The d- and q-axis PBRC are designed, and the stability of the controller is analyzed. Both the simulations and the experiments on a SPMSM have been carried out to verify the torque ripple suppression performance of the designed controller at various motor speeds and torques.
