First Results and Lessons Learned during Setup of a DO-384 Compliant Monte-Carlo Simulation for Integrity Monitoring Validation

RTCA DO-384 “Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) for GNSS Aided Inertial Systems” prescribes a large amount of Monte-Carlo runs, involving millions of simulated flight hours, to validate the integrity claims that the manufacturer reports to the certification entity. The MOPS introduces detailed requirements and procedures for setting up the simulations. Nonetheless, performing a reasonable Monte-Carlo campaign is a challenging task. Beside the simulation models itself, design considerations must be taken into account regarding data management, data and configuration storage, reproducibility, scalability, runtime monitoring, execution control, and reprocessing. This paper describes the setup and first results from Monte-Carlo simulations for testing an Aircraft Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (AAIM) algorithm according to DO-384.
