Power Quality Improvement by Using a Custom Power Device UPQC

All utilities are worried about power quality, and it has persisted for a long time. The advancement of electronic devices has had a significant impact on the quality of the electric power supply. Harmonics, which result from the operation of nonlinear loads, have an impact on distribution system quality. In such circumstances, utilities and end users are equally worried about the quality of the energy. Hence, there are only a handful of steps required to enhance power quality. This study primarily centers on an advanced power filtering system referred to as the Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC), which integrates both series and shunt filters. A series active power filter lessens distortions brought on by current flow when compared to a shunt active power filter. Together and separately, the Unified Power Quality Conditioner reduces voltage- and current-based aberrations. A sinusoidal source current and load voltage are created, both of which are at the ideal voltage level, as a result of the Unified Power Quality Conditioner's elimination of harmonics and load current. It was decided to use MATLAB or Simulink to model the series-active power filter, shunt-active power filter, and unified power quality conditioner.
